Creating our brand-new gluten-free afternoon tea in a box has been such an exciting journey. You know us well enough by now to know that our standards are tip top, so we searched high and low for all the right products – all those products that are “gluten-free but you wouldn’t know it” – that’s what we’re looking for. And it can be quite tricky to find them! But that’s why we’ve done all the hard work for you!
From the very beginning, we were determined that when customers order afternoon tea online, they receive something special – thoughtfully curated, and packed with treats that everyone can enjoy with confidence, and most importantly, every bit as luxurious as a traditional spread.
To make that happen, we taste-tested a lot of products – tough job, I know! But someone’s got to do it! Some were good, some were dreadful, and thankfully, some were excellent! So what did we choose in the end?
- Of course, the box features our classic triple chocolate brownie, raspberry blondie and millionaire’s shortbread – a perfect variety with something for everyone.
- Next, we found a lovely lemon drizzle cake from another gluten-free bakery, however, we are planning to start making this ourselves in the near future!
- The scones were tricky – a bit like bread, they’re a very difficult product to master gluten-free because they have such a high flour content, but we have found a really great scone to include.
- Teas and coffees were very hard to pick – everyone has their own tastes! But we ultimately decided to keep it very classic and opted for Taylor’s of Harrogate. There’s a reason they’ve been around so long – they know how to make a good cuppa!
- We were very impressed with the clotted cream we chose – it’s shelf stable, meaning we don’t have to use refrigerated packaging, which keeps the cost down! But most importantly, it’s delicious, and you would have no idea it’s a long-life product!
