Coffee and Cake; the perfect combination?
The first time I had a coffee was when I started my first “proper job”. I was fresh out of university and new to the 9-5 routine. I didn’t know how people could possibly cope working so many hours, and I needed something to get me through the day! Oh, how naive I was to think a 35 hour week was a tough gig! 9 years on and I’ve been through navigating a start-up business, working 70+ hour weeks whilst renovating a house at the weekends, building a house, having a baby and most recently deciding it was a good idea to have another baby. I think it’s safe to say, I didn’t know what lack of sleep and long working days really meant back then!
Throughout that time, learning to love coffee was a total game-changer. At first, it’s all about that caffeine hit – you just need it to wake up or get through the afternoon. But when you slow down and actually taste it, a whole new world opens up. You start noticing how one coffee might taste a bit fruity, while another is really rich and chocolatey. It’s a journey from just needing the buzz to genuinely enjoying the unique flavours that come from where the beans were grown.
At some point, it stopped being just a simple drink in our household and became something we could really appreciate; an enjoyable part of our daily routine. *Cue: investing in an over-priced bean-to-cup machine that takes up half the kitchen counter*
Sitting here writing this blog, I’m enjoying taste testing some of our new Monthly Special brownie flavours and pairing them with the Coffee of the Month from John Watt & Son.
